For centuries, Eastern Congo has been a frontier for slavery, ethnic warfare and resource exploitation. In 2007, ten of the last 700 mountain gorillas in the world were executed in a fight over local charcoal provisions. In response, Philipp Kauffmann decided to turn the tide by helping the community and in the process has made the first single-original chocolate from Eastern Congo.
